Research Project
Four year European funded research with CNR research institute of Calabria
36 ancient olive cultivars were found in Malta. It was found that 18 of them produce superior olive oil and can be used for pressing. The others can be used as rootstock for grafting.
A landscaping project involved the removal of invasive alien species and the planting of indigenous plant species, some of which were rare. A direct flow system was used, along with mulching, elevated beds, terracing, composting, and sacrificial plants. Many plants and trees that were nitrogen fixers and bioaccumulators were used to regenerate the soil.
Fruit trees were pruned in hyper-intensive, semi-intensive, and normal orchards.
